I had the honor of interviewing Jake Clasen, lead singer, of the alteras, check out their music and upcoming tour-

Me: So first question, for those that aren’t familiar with you, how would you describe your music?
JC: It’s kind of hard to pin point, but I guess I would describe our music as heavy pop rock. While we do have songs that are heavy in nature, we are insistent that we throw catchy choruses and verse lines into the mix. The thing about us is that when we write, we don’t think about how the song “should” sound, we treat every song like a new canvas for exploration.

Me: “Canvas for exploration”?
JC: Each song is its own work of art, they’re all unique in their own way and we like it that way. We don’t like to restrict ourselves to a particular genre or audience, if that makes sense!

Me: Makes total sense!, and lyrically, what kind of things do you write about?
JC: A lot of the lyrics I write are about emotions and/or real life experiences. I’m a firm believer that we need to really feel all the emotions we have, both good and bad. Numbing pain or not embracing happiness is an injustice to ourselves. They’re also a universal topic, which gives them the grounds to relate to anyone that’s listening.

Me: So your life inspires your music?
JC: Lyrically, very much so.

Me: So what are your current/most recent projects?, CD or tour?
JC: We’re aiming to release our first full length very soon, it’s all mixed and mastered we’re just waiting for the right time to release it. The album, “Grief”, is 10 songs in length. We’re also about to be going on tour August 1st-13th with Come and Rest. It’s also possible you may be hearing a quality acoustic video performance of our entire first release, “Shapeshifter – EP”, in the near future as well!

Me: Maybe this summer?, and where all will your tour cover?
JC: Late August is possible, but not likely. Just direct anyone to Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram and the tour will be really advertised their!(/alterasband)

Me: You all are on a small tour with come and rest, for those not familiar with them, how would you describe them?, and how did you get connected with them?
JC: Our manager actually set the tour up with them, I’ve never personally listened to them! However, I’m very excited to listen to them perform while on tour!

Me: Well we definitely look forward to hearing how that goes!, any other artists you’ll be touring with?
JC: None that we know of currently, but we certainly are looking forward to doing plenty of more tours in the near future!

Me: Well we definitely look forward to it!, so one last question, from reading my blog, you can tell I’m a Christian, what are your spiritual views and how do they affect your music?
JC: Because spiritual views vary between members, it’s not present in our music. However, we do include a sense of strength in morality.

Me: I see, well thank you so much for this interview!
JC: Thank you for the opportunity!
